- 1 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and granulated sugar until pale and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring; mix until fully combined.
- Fold the dry mixture into the wet mixture until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
- Roll the dough into one to two tablespoon-sized balls and coat each in powdered sugar.
- Place the balls on the prepared baking sheets with a few inches between them.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes, until the edges are set and tops are crackled.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
For richer flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of espresso powder or folding in white chocolate chips. Store in an airtight container for up to four days.
