Description

Delightful Soft Cutout Sugar Cookies that evoke memories of family gatherings and baking traditions.


Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup salted butter, softened at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (or ¼ teaspoon for a more subtle flavor)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 34 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Gel food coloring (optional)


Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Set aside.
  2. In a separate large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing to combine fully after each addition.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and almond extract; mix until well incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing on low until a soft dough forms.
  6. Divide the dough into two equal portions, placing each on a lightly floured surface.
  7. Roll the dough to about ¼-inch thickness, dusting with flour as needed.
  8. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours.
  9. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  10. Cut the chilled dough into desired shapes with cookie cutters and arrange on prepared baking sheets.
  11. Bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly browned. Allow cooling for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
