Description

Delight in the warmth of family traditions with these sweet and tender sugar cookies, perfect for decorating and sharing during special occasions.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ sticks butter (1 cup & 4 tablespoons, softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon fine salt


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C) and prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract; beat until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add half of the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix on low speed. Once the flour is nearly absorbed, add the remainder and mix until just combined.
  6. Roll out about a quarter of the dough on a lightly floured surface to ¼ inch thickness.
  7. Cut using desired cookie cutters and place on the prepared tray. If decorating, sprinkle sprinkles on now.
  8. Bake for 11-13 minutes, checking at 10 minutes for doneness.
  9. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a baking rack. Decorate as desired.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze them for up to three months.
