Description

Make layered jello at home with 3 fruit flavors, creamy condensed milk layers, and clean rainbow stripes. Follow 5 easy steps for a perfect chilled dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

1 box strawberry gelatin dessert mix, 3 ounces

1 box lemon gelatin dessert mix, 3 ounces

1 box berry blue gelatin dessert mix, 3 ounces

3 cups boiling water, divided

1 1/2 cups cold water, divided

1 can sweetened condensed milk, 14 ounces

2 envelopes unflavored powdered gelatin, 1/4 ounce each

1/2 cup cold water for blooming gelatin

1 cup boiling water for dissolving gelatin

Cooking spray or neutral oil, for greasing

Whipped topping and fresh berries, optional, for serving

Instructions

1. Lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch dish and dissolve strawberry gelatin in 1 cup boiling water, then stir in 1/2 cup cold water. Cool, pour into the dish, and refrigerate until set enough to support another layer.

2. Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup cold water, let bloom 5 minutes, then dissolve in 1 cup boiling water. Stir in condensed milk until smooth and divide into two equal portions. Cool the first portion.

3. Pour half the creamy mixture slowly over the back of a spoon onto the set strawberry layer. Refrigerate until stable. Dissolve lemon gelatin in 1 cup boiling water and 1/2 cup cold water, cool, then pour over the white layer and refrigerate.

4. Cool the reserved creamy mixture, pour it over the set lemon layer, and refrigerate. Dissolve berry blue gelatin in the remaining 1 cup boiling water and 1/2 cup cold water, cool, then pour over the second white layer.

5. Refrigerate the finished dessert at least 4 hours or overnight until firm throughout. Cut into squares with a thin knife, wiping the blade between cuts, and serve chilled with optional whipped topping or berries.

Notes

Use sweetened condensed milk, not evaporated milk, for the correct sweetness and consistency.

For a 2-layer version, use one fruit flavor and half the creamy mixture in a smaller dish.

For a 3-layer version, use two fruit flavors with one white layer between them.

For a parfait variation, layer set gelatin cubes with whipped topping in clear cups instead of cutting squares.
